PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, requesting government intervention in a dispute with the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, over alleged financial misconduct.
According to letters submitted to Cambodian authorities, the investor—who also holds shares in the firm—claims Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in fraudulent practices that caused significant financial harm. The investor alleges that Yamada inflated real estate purchase prices in Cambodia, with preliminary assessments suggesting that around $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and for associates.
The complaints also describe fabricated business transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, and allege that forged documents and large cash diversions were processed through shell companies connected to Yamada and his associates. Some funds are said to have been transferred to an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
Further, the investor claims that Yamada established shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominee directors, while retaining direct control over related bank accounts and financial operations.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others. Court orders have frozen certain assets and bank accounts linked to the cases. The letters also indicate that investigations are ongoing in multiple countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, focusing on allegations such as embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The investor urges Cambodian authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and expresses concern that interference could allow suspects to avoid accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
YY Capital Partners and Yamada Taihei have not publicly responded to the allegations, and the matter remains under investigation.
